The Story Behind Capture & Calm Walks

ABOUT SARAH WOOD

FOUNDER OF CAPTURE & CALM WALKS

Capture & Calm Walks

Capture & Calm Walks began as something deeply personal before it became a community.

My journey into wellbeing, creativity and community work grew through motherhood, nature and a need to slow down and reconnect with myself.

Capture & Calm Walks would not have grown in the way it has without the support and belief of two incredibly talented female directors. Their encouragement, shared values and confidence in the project helped turn a personal idea into a community space that supports so many women today.

Where It Began

When my daughter was born, my world changed completely.

She has complex medical needs and is non verbal. Becoming her mum reshaped how I see the world. She taught me patience, resilience and a deeper understanding of communication beyond words. She helped me see how powerful small everyday moments can be.

During this time I found myself quietly asking important questions.

Who am I becoming

How do I create belonging

How do we hold onto calm during life’s challenges

Nature and creativity became grounding tools that helped guide me forward.

A Childhood Rooted in Nature

I grew up on a farm where outdoor life shaped who I am. I spent hours creating stories, exploring fields and collecting pebbles, turning them into tiny characters with feelings and personalities.

I helped care for lambs, explored open land and painted with my grandmother. Those early moments shaped my creativity and showed me how calming it is to be outdoors and connected to nature.

The Birth of Capture & Calm Walks

Mindful walking became something that supported my wellbeing during difficult times. Slowing down, noticing details and capturing moments through photography helped me process emotions and reconnect with the present.

When I invited other women to walk alongside me, something unexpected and beautiful happened.

As we walked, conversations opened naturally. The walks became more than time outdoors. They became safe, welcoming spaces filled with honesty, laughter and connection.

Alongside walking we introduced mindful litter picks. These gentle acts of caring for our surroundings created a shared sense of purpose. Moving slowly, noticing our environment and leaving places better than we found them brought calm and belonging.

Capture and Calm Walks grew from my own need into a supportive community where women can step away from daily pressures, reconnect with themselves and walk together.

Creativity as Wellbeing

Alongside the walks I began creating photography, journals and creative wellbeing resources inspired by nature, reflection and emotional expression.

This creative work sits within Capture and Calm Walks Art.

For me journaling holds special meaning. For my daughter, journals can act as a communication tool, helping capture her thoughts, feelings and personality in ways that can be shared and understood.

Journals also hold memories of laughter, small achievements and quiet moments. Paired with photography they become reminders of where we have been and what truly matters.

Pebble Wood and The Pig Who...(And That Counts) Series

My storytelling naturally grew into my book projects.

Pebble Wood is a gentle nature inspired children’s wellbeing series using storytelling and creativity to support emotional understanding, calm and confidence in young people.

The Pig Who series explores similar themes for older readers using humour, reflection and honest storytelling about effort, boundaries and self acceptance.

Both projects bring wellbeing ideas to life in accessible and meaningful ways.

Supporting Young People and Families

Through my experiences as a parent and community facilitator I saw how valuable creative reflection tools could be for children and families navigating their own challenges.

This led to helping shape Future Journeys CIC, a project focused on creative wellbeing resources for young people and families. It is built on shared values of creativity, reflection and emotional growth, offering supportive tools that help people find their own path.

Evolving Colours

My work with Evolving Colours connects creativity and wellbeing through colour analysis and confidence support. Colour can influence how we feel, how we see ourselves and how we express identity. This work sits naturally alongside my wider creative and wellbeing projects.

The Heart Behind Everything I Do

Looking back, my story is not simply about projects or ideas. It is about people.

The women who walk beside me

The families who share their stories

The children who remind me how powerful creativity can be

The everyday encouragers who supported me along the way

Belonging is something we build together, step by step.

Creating Safe and Inclusive Spaces

Capture and Calm Walks currently offers women only in person wellbeing sessions. These spaces help women feel safe to share openly and reconnect with themselves.

My online creative wellbeing resources are open to all adults because creativity, reflection and emotional wellbeing should be accessible to everyone.

My Why

My children remain at the centre of everything I create.

They remind me daily about resilience, patience, joy and love without limits. They are the reason I want to help build a kinder, more creative and more connected world.

A Gentle Invitation

If you have found your way here while searching for calm, connection or belonging, please know you are not alone.

Belonging is not something we chase. It grows through small gentle moments through creativity, reflection, nature and community.

For me this journey began with my daughter, my sons, my childhood on the farm and the courage to begin noticing and capturing moments.

For you it may begin somewhere different.

But your journey matters too.
